Kenneth Harvey Bonenfant, D.M.D, 89, died August 10, 2010, at the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. He was born February 21, 1921, in Laurium, Mich., the son of Albert and Castella Harvey Bonenfant.
He was educated in the Presque Isle school system, Bowdoin College and graduated with honors from Harvard Dental School. He married Marilynn Parkhurst on September 5, 1943, and served in the Pacific theater of operations in World War II on the U.S.S. LaSalle. In 1946 he began the general practice of dentistry in Presque Isle for a period of forty years.
He was a member of the Congregational Church (U.C.C.), serving on the Board of Deacons, church school teacher, member of the Doctor of Ministry Team and several committees. He served on the original Board of Directors for the organization of the Presque Isle Country Club, chairman of the Presque Isle Housing Authority, board of Directors for the Red Cross, Johnson Cemetery and director of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed golf and cross country skiing.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynn; a daughter, Pamela and her husband Wayne Raymond of Seminole, FL; a son, Edwin Bonenfant and his wife Jane of Ellsworth, ME; four grandchildren, Rachel Bonenfant Zehner and her husband David of Australia, Rebecca Bonenfant Duprey and her husband Daniel of Presque Isle, Shelly Raymond of Seminole, FL, and Nicole Raymond Jewett and her husband Kenneth of Maryland; and seven great-grandchildren, Annabelle Zehner, Zachary Zehner, Benjamin Duprey, Alexander Duprey, Lilly Jewett, London Jewett, and Cecelia Tomas.
A graveside service was conducted 10 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Fairmount Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. A reception immediately followed in the fellowship hall of the Presque Isle Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Arrangements are in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
