Patten Pioneer Days kick into high gear

    PATTEN — Patten Pioneer Days continue this week, culminating with a busy day of events Saturday, including a Hawaiian luau themed parade.
    According to Town Manager Terry Conklin, children are able to earn golden tickets, which can be used to win one of several bicycles. The Bike Giveaway is Saturday at 5 p.m. at the park. Every teenager that helps with events also earns a golden ticket.
    Below is a list of activities and events with contact information for the remaining Pioneer Days. The number for the town office is: 528-2215.
Wednesday, Aug. 11
    1 p.m. — Bird Show and Craft Fair. Meet and have your photo taken with Casey the Cockatoo and Edgar the Macaw. Sponsored by Dri Ki Woodworking.
    2 p.m. — Luau Party.
    2:30 p.m. — Giggles and Stickers Childcare for ages 3-12. Water activities and lots of fun. Please bring a towel.
    4-9 p.m. — Car Hop with DJ Shawn Rigby at Craig’s Clam Shop.
    4-9 p.m. —Zumba Demo’s with Danielle Cole (Latin Dance Exercise).
Thursday, Aug. 12
    9a.m.-4 p.m. — Book Sale at Veteran’s Memorial Library.
    12:30 p.m. — Teddy Bear Picnic at the park. Children up to age 7 can participate. Lots of fun and surprises. Please bring your own picnic lunch and blanket. Have your picture taken with Smokey the Bear. Sponsored by Debbie’s Deli and Tuck’s Guide Service
    2 p.m. — Watermelon Eating Contest, sponsored by Ellis Family Market – Ages 4 -16.
    4-6 p.m. — Spaghetti Dinner at the Methodist Church. Concert pianist Chuck Loucka will provide music.
    7 p.m. — Zumba at the Recreation Building.
Friday, Aug. 13
    9 a.m. to noon — Veteran’s Memorial Library Book Sale.
    11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Progressive Main Street Lunch. Start at Craig’s Clam Shop and get an empty food container (last container handed out at 12:30 p.m.). Then travel around town and pickup the rest of your lunch. Participating businesses are Craig’s Clam Shop, Eastmill FCU, Dead River, Debbie’s Deli and Pizza, Katahdin Trust Co., Ellis Family Market, Magic Wand Car Wash, Richardson’s Hardware, Red Moose and Daisy Boutique. Visit all locations and receive a prize. A raffle will also be held.
    Noon-2 p.m. — KVHC “Let’s Go – 5*2*1*0” Games include hopscotch, hula hoop, face painting, sandwiches, healthy snacks, smoothies, clowns and door prizes.
    1 p.m. — Kiddie Parade, Main Street to Founders Street for those up to age 12. Sponsored by Giggles and Stickers Childcare and the Patten Playground Committee. Line up at 12:45 p.m. at the firehouse. A “Whack a Piñata” at Chickadee Realty will be held following the Kiddie Parade.
    3 p.m. — Teen Candy Drop for ages 13-17 at The Hanger Tip. Please bring a bag to collect your goodies.
    6 p.m. — VBS Evening Service at the Patten Pentecostal Church.
    5-7 p.m. — The 22nd annual Chicken BBQ and Silent Auction, sponsored by the Mt. Chase Fire Department at Shin Pond Village.
    9 p.m. — Fireworks at Shin Pond Village. Donations always appreciated
    9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Adult Dance – Hawaiian Luau Theme at the Shin Pond Pub, featuring “Mr. Hyde.”
Saturday, Aug. 14
    10 a.m. — Main Street Parade. Come see Shriners, floats, fire trucks, Fireman Fred and much more. Trophies to the three best floats.
    11 a.m. — Playground Committee Hot Dog Stand at the park. Hot dogs, sausage and cold drinks.
    11a.m. — Cow Patty Bingo at Richardson’s Hardware. Come see which square ole’ Bingo will do his business in … and win some cash. Tickets will be on sale all week at Richardsons.
    11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — Bingo at the Park. Join us in the tent for a great afternoon of playing bingo. Each card will be 25 cents. Cash payouts! Due to Patten’s Bingo license rules you must be at least 16 years of age to play.
    11 a.m. -2 p.m. — Kids Carnival Games at the park. A good old-fashioned fun loving carnival, right in our own park. Play games such as, the lollipop tree, duck game, toilet paper throwing and much more. Try the prize blowing booth for your chance to win a new bike. Make sure you check out our awesome body glimmer temporary tattoo tent. Helpers from Houlton Salvation Army and the Patten Pentecostal Youth Group will be on hand.
    11 a.m. — Flea Market/Craft Fair at the park. Maine Wilderness Camp Foundation’s raffle for an Old Town canoe will also be held.
    11a.m. — Petting Zoo by MacDonald Farm at the park.
    11 a.m. — Green Valley Raffle at the park. Enter for a chance to win an autographed picture of Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox.
    11a.m. — Book signing at Bradford House Bed and Breakfast, 46 Main St. Lynn Olsen Brown will be signing/reading her book, “Alice, Frankenstein and Saturday Night Beans.” A short tour will follow and lunches are available from noon-1 p.m. at  $10 per person.
    11a.m. — Foul Shooting Contest at the Basketball Court, followed by a 3-on-3 Basketball tourney. Age for the basketball events are:  3rd-4th grade; 5th-6th grade; 7th-8th grade; 9th-10th grade; and 11th-12th grade. All first place winners will receive a trophy to take home.
    Noon — 4 on 4 Volleyball Tourney at the volleyball court. Pre-register at the Town Office. Each Team costs $15, while individuals can join for $4. On the day of tourney, the team fee will be $20 and $5 per individuals.
    1-4 p.m. — “A Look at Life in Early Patten” at the Patten Historical Society is sponsored by the Patten Woman’s Club.
    1 p.m. — Fireman Fred performs in the Park.
    4-6 p.m. — Mason’s Steak Dinner at KVHC Parking Lot
    5 p.m. — Bike Giveaway at the Park. Kids with the golden tickets bring your tickets for the bike raffle.
    5:45 p.m. — 50/50 winner announced at the Bingo Tent. Must be present to win.
    6 p.m. — Home Run Derby
    7 p.m. — Ventriloquist/Magician in the Park; sponsored by Patten Drug.
    7 p.m. — Candy Drop at the Hanger, for children up to age 12. Please bring a bag to collect your goodies.
    9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Adult Dance with DJ Shawn Rigby at the Rec. BYOB, cover charge is $5.
