PRESQUE ISLE — An employee has been charged in connection with a burglary at a Main Street business earlier this week.
The Presque Isle Police Department received a report of a possible burglary at Go Video — a movie rental business located just off Main Street next to the Family Dollar Store — about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2. Officers Rob Thibeault and Kevin Reed responded to investigate.
According to the police report, upon arrival, the building was found to be unlocked. Officers cleared the business, finding no one inside. A movie rack had been knocked over and movies were strewn about on the floor.
Police spoke with the employee, identified as 24-year-old Kyle Wells, of Presque Isle, who claimed to have discovered the crime and drove to the manager’s home to report it. Wells indicated to police that he and the manager then returned to the store.
The manager reportedly checked the cash drawer and determined a large sum of cash was missing, at which time she notified police.
After interviewing Wells, the employee reportedly confessed to the crimes. Police recovered the missing funds from Wells’ vehicle.
Wells was charged with burglary and theft and will appear in Caribou Superior Court on Sept. 16.
WASHBURN — Two men have been arrested in connection with a July burglary at a service station and a construction company, both Washburn businesses.
“On July 21, the Washburn Police Department received complaints of burglary from White’s Service and Langille Construction in Washburn,” said Chief Doug Conroy, WPD.
Both businesses reported having cash stolen as a result of the burglaries.
Investigation led to two local men being charged in connection with both crimes.
“Washburn Police Officer Roy Guidry investigated the burglaries and has charged 33-year-old Jeffrey Hardsgrove, of Washburn, with two counts of burglary and theft, and 28-year-old Christopher Horan, of Presque Isle, with two counts of burglary and theft,” said Conroy, who assisted in the investigation.
Also assisting in the investigation were: Maine State Police Evidence Recovery Technician Dan Deschaine, Presque Isle Police Officer Kevin Schumacher and the department’s K-9, Hunter.
WASHBURN — A local man will appear in Caribou District Court this fall, following his arrest for violating conditions of release stemming from an earlier case.
“On July 28, the Washburn Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence of 56-year-old Michael Bull of Washburn. The subject of the search was a victim of a prior crime for which Bull had been arrested,” said Chief Doug Conroy, WPD.
Conroy said as a condition of his release, after having been arrested on the prior crime, Bull was prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with the victim.
“The victim in the prior incident was found at Bull’s residence during the execution of the search warrant,” said Conroy,
The chief said the district attorney’s office has requested no additional information be released on the earlier case, since it could negatively affect court proceedings should details be revealed.
Bull was placed under arrest and charged with violation of condition of release. Bull has a trial date of Sept. 30 in Caribou District Court.
Assisting the WPD in the investigation were the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Border Patrol.
