Maine Sport Legends Northern District has chosen Kelsey Park of Presque Isle High School and Samuel Chasse of Fort Kent Community High School to receive the Scholar/Athlete Scholarships for 2010.

They are being recognized for their outstanding scholarship, athletic accomplishments and community service. Each will receive $500 and will be eligible for an additional $1,000 scholarship to be chosen out of the eight scholar/athletes in the state.
They, along with the six other area winners, will be honored at the annual Maine Sport Legends Banquet on Oct. 10 at the Alfond Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Waterville.
Park graduated from Presque Isle High School ranked first in her class and is the daughter of Jim and Jan Park.
Park played varsity soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball during her high school career. She was nominated for the Rotary District Youth Merit Award for best exemplifying the Rotary ideals of service, leadership and dependability.
Academically, she achieved high honors all four years, along with earning the Presidential Achievement Award, making Who’s Who for three years, receiving the Penobscot Valley Conference Scholar Athlete Award and the academic letter lamp and bar.
Park is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Club and Critical Issues Forum.
Her community service during high school was relentless as she served as a volunteer with the local elementary schools, city recreation department, church, Kiwanis food basket program, blood drives, Special Olympics, local soup kitchen and peer tutoring students before school.
Park was accepted early decision to Colby College in Waterville, where she will study Neurosciences with the hope of working with public school children.
