Youth soccer registration

    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for its youth soccer program at the William V. Haskell Community Center. The program is offered to boys and girls entering grades PreK-6 this fall. The registration fee is $18. Schedules and rosters will be handed out at the community center Tuesday, Aug. 10, with play beginning Aug. 23 for grades 1-2 and the week of Aug. 17 for grades 3-6.

 

ZUMBA

    The rec is offering ZUMBA classes each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:45-6:45 p.m. The drop in fee is $6 for those who haven’t signed up for a member deal. Punch cards are now used for the member deal. A card for 10 sessions may be purchased for $40, and classes will be held through the summer months and for the immediate future. Classes on the first Tuesday of the month will be free for all people, including those on a member deal. For more information call 764-2545 or email pirec@maine.rr.com.

 
Birthday parties

    The rec is now hosting birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the Recreation Center in addition to hosting parties at the Indoor Pool.  The Recreation Center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00-8:00 pm, with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental. Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball, and kickball.  For more information on rentals at the Rec, call 764-2545 or email pirec@maine.rr.com. Baseball Minors

    In the first game of the week, Katahdin Trust beat K of C 4-3. RJ Gross picked up the win for Katahdin Trust as Karsten Bourgoine was given the loss. There were only four hits total as Andrew Hewitt got the lone hit for K of C with a  double. Storm Bonato, R.J. Gross and Kyler Caron each had singles. Gage Young made a key play for K of C, while Jared Kilcollins had key defensive play for Katahdin Trust.
    In the second game, Savings Bank lost to Key Bank. Adam Paterson, Cole Paterson and Jake Stevens had the only hits for Savings Bank. Key Bank was led by Griffen Guerrette with a single and double from; Jack Beaulieu, single; Jaren Winger, single and triple; Trevor Miranda single; and Drew Cameron, Alex Churchill and Isaac Madore each had two singles. 
    Wednesday morning’s game saw K of C squeak past Savings Bank 6-3. Will Brides pitched the win for K of C as he also added a single to help his team. Jake Stevens pitched the loss, but added three singles for Savings Bank. Max Bartley added a single as Adam Paterson, Cole Paterson, and Connelly Ambrutis each reached base for Savings Bank. Carter Trombley singled for K of C as Brody Gallagher-Easler, Ian Franz, Mason Young and Torey Levesque all reached base to help K of C.  In the field both first baseman had great plays; Trace Cyr for Savings Bank and Andrew Hewitt for K of C.
    Wednesday’s night game saw Key Bank blast Katahdin Trust, 21-5. Jack Beaulieu got the win for Key Bank and had three singles. Helping him were Jaren Winger with two singles, double, triple and home run; Griffen Gurrette, double, triple and home run; Isaac Madore, single and double; Keegan Kinney, single; and Drew Cameron, Trevor Miranda, Matthew O’Connell and Alex Churchill all reached base because of walks for Key Bank. Jacob Sjoberg was given the loss for KT. At the plate, Sjoberg had two singles; Kyler Caron had a single; RJ Gross had two doubles; and Storm Bonato had a single. In the field, Zachariah Morse made key defensive plays. On the mound Jack Beaulieu, Jaren Winger, and Griffen Guerrette combined for 16 strikeouts for Key Bank. 
    The first game of Friday morning saw Key Bank came out victorious 5-2 over Savings Bank. At the plate, Savings Bank was led by Jake Stevens, three singles and a double; Erick Tompkins, two singles; Bailey York, single; Max Bartley, three singles; Jack Bonville, two singles; and Adam Paterson, two singles. Key Bank was led by Jaren Winger, four doubles and a single; Jack Beaulieu, two singles; Griffen Gurerrette, single, two doubles and two triples; Drew Cameron, three singles; Trevor Miranda, two singles; Matthew O’Connell, four singles; and Isaac Madore, two singles. Both teams made great plays in the field as Keegan Kinney, Alex Churchill, Drew Cameron, Griffen Guerrette and Trevor Miranda had great play for Key Bank. Making plays for Savings Bank were Jake Stevens, Nagrozet Morey, Trace Cyr and Cole Paterson. 
    The final game of the week saw Katahdin Trust fell to K of C 9-5. For K of C, Torey Levesque had three hits; Jonah Hudson, three hits; Will Bridges, four hits; Mason Young, two hits; Josh Baldwin, three hits; and Brody Gallagher-Easler made great contact in his at-bats for K of C.
    For Katahdin Trust, Jacob Sjoberg and Storm Bonato each had two hits as RJ Gross, Zachariah Morse, Jared Kilcollins, Kyler Caron, Noah Race each had a single, and Garrett Morneault, and Carter Rice both had great at-bats for Katahdin Trust.

 
Jr. girls softball

    The Mudcats recorded their first win of the season over shorthanded Rockhounds, 13-6. Emma Kinney handled the pitching duties for the Mudcats, recording 10 strikeouts, while only giving up three hits. Offensively, Hailey Cameron led the Mudcats with two triples and a double; Taylor Williams added a triple and single; Matteah Michaud, and Emma Kinney each contributing a single. The Rockhounds had two hits from Tori Harvath and one from Olivia Hudson.
    The Rockhounds and Thunder played to a 7-7 tie on Monday. Lee Ireland came on in the fourth innings to hold the Rockhounds to one run over the next two innings. The Thunder was lead defensively by Darrian Corey and Shelby Shaw on the left side of the infield. Offensively, the Thunder got hits from Kali Ward and Brittany Wilson. Wilson had a homerun to lead the Thunder on a four run rally in the fifth inning to get the tie. Lee Ireland came took the mound in the fourth inning and she responded by holding the Rockhounds to one run. The Rockhounds received hits from Megan Seward, Kelsey Gilson, Amy Seeley, and Olivia Hudson. Olivia Hudson pitched four strong innings allowing three runs on one hit while striking out five batters.
    A short-handed Thunder team was able to hold on for a 10-9 victory over the Mudcats. The Mudcats were led defensively by Hailey Cameron. Offensively, the Mudcats got two runs each from Emma Kinney and Alexis Bell. Jordi Legassie, Matteah Michaud, Taylor Williams, Hailey Cameron, and Emily Colligan were also able to cross the plate. The Thunder received hits from Jessica Cameron and Brittany Wilson. Kali Ward used her speed on the bases to score three runs. Lee Ireland got the win and also scored twice to help her cause.

 
Swim team

     The Presque Isle Recreation swim team captured first place at the Caribou Swim Meet on July 19. Caribou placed second, Fort Fairfield placed third and Fort Kent placed fourth. Individual high point winners from Presque Isle were Carter Rice, parker Lambert and Issac Estey.

Backstroke  – 1, Kingsbury; 2, Grace Bemis; 4, Kinney; 5, Gabrielle Underwood Charette; and 6, White. Breaststroke – 2 Thibault, 3 Bemis, 5, Lambert; 6, Charette; 8 Kingsbury; and 9, Kinney. Butterfly – 1, Thibault; 4, Charette; 5, Bemis. Individual medley – 1, Thibault.
    Boys eight and under: Ryllan Thibault placed second in freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke.
    Girls 9-10: Freestyle — 2, Kate Goulet; 4, Kimberly Cook; 5, Emma Willette; 7, Libbee Currie; and 10, Alex Walsh. Backstroke – 2, Willette; 4, Cook; and 9, Walsh. Breaststroke  – 3, Goulet; 4, Cook; 6, Currie; and 9, Walsh. Butterfly – 3, Currie; and 4, Goulet.
    Boys 9-10: Freestyle – 3, Tyler Levesque. Backstroke – 1, Carter Rice; and 3, Levesque. Breaststroke  – 2, Rice; and 3, Levesque. Butterfly – 2 Rice.
