Pelletier cruises to victory
in Spudland tourney

PRESQUE ISLE — Phil Pelletier shot a 36-hole total of 139 to take the 43rd Coca-Cola Spudland Open golf tournament, held Saturday and Sunday at Presque Isle Country Club.
Pelletier was also the winner of the Joseph Freeman Memorial Award for accumulating the lowest score for a Presque Isle Country Club member.
Pelletier opened the tourney by shooting a one-under-par 71 on Saturday, trailing then-leader Jamie Leavitt by one stroke. On Sunday, he carded a four-under 68, which even included a bogey on hole No. 17.
He is now a three-time winner of the tournament, also capturing victories in 1996 and 2007. He has now won the Freeman Award six times.
Taking the overall net title was Ron McAtee of Presque Isle, who scored a 136.

The tournament included a field of 182 golfers, which is the largest “in the last five to seven years,” according to PICC professional Barry Madore.?
