Delano receives scholarship

    Tyler Delano of Houlton was the recipient of the “Samsung Scholarship” following a week long Dirigo Boys State event held in June in Waterville. Delano is entering his senior year at Houlton High School this fall. He also received a very nice wooden plaque.
    Delano was chosen for his essay among 200 other students. One of the prerequisites is that the student needs to be a descendant of a Korean War Veteran. The award also puts Delano into the running for a national $10,000 or $20,000 scholarship from Samsung.    Students must be a high school junior and participate in and complete either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. The selection of the scholarship winners is based in part, on the following criteria: academic record; involvement in school activities; involvement in community activities and service; financial need.
