Charity Challenge had large field

    It was a perfect weekend to play golf and because of that Cloukey’s Charity Challenge Golf Tournament was a huge success. Golfers converged on Limestone Country Club on Saturday and on Long Lake Country Club on Sunday to benefit Special Olympics.

    Thirty two teams played on July 17 and a record 41 teams teed it up on July 18 during the two nine -hole scrambles.
    On July 17, Team Jimmy V, made up of Mark Violette, Roy Michaud, Mike Rioux and Tony Theriault, won both events. The four were playing in honor of Mark’s brother, Jim, who played in the tournament several times over the years.
    The net winners that morning were Brad Boyles, Gary St Peter, Josh Bell and Blake Bailey. The afternoon session was won by Ed Desjarlais, Dean Brackell, Mike Verdecchia and Bob Blanchard.
    On July 18, 23 teams teed it up in the morning session and it was a good day for the owners of Long Lake Country Club. Al and Margaret Hebert were members of the winning team during both events. The Heberts teamed up with Charles Albert and Roger Beaulieu  to win the morning event and then in the afternoon session, the Heberts, Albert and Dale Daney took the title.
    On the net side, Conrad Lagasse, Roz Rossignol, Duncan McKenzie and Dana Caron picked up the title in the final event. Terry Hallowell, Peter Ouellette, Kevin Chapman and Jason Chapman also were victorious.
    George Morneault of Madawaska won a scooter raffle.
    All money raised from the event benefits Special Olympics of Aroostook County.
