The Northern Maine Fair
To the editor:
In the July 23rd edition of the Bangor Daily News there was a supplement advertising this year’s Bangor State Fair. Last year, for the first time, they introduced a single price of $10 for admission and unlimited rides every day and they are continuing it this year.
Why isn’t the Northern Maine Fair Association able to offer the same deal to their patrons in the County? Even on a “Special Bracelet Day”, which is offered on only four days out of nine, an unlimited rides bracelet is $20, and that doesn’t include the $7 ($2 for ages 7-12) admission fee.
My daughter and I have been looking forward to the fair, planning and preparing our needlework and cooking entries for a second year, but it’s unfortunate that while we may be able to afford admission we won’t be able to afford the rides. Even on a “special” day, it will cost us $49. How can that in any way be considered affordable? That doesn’t even include a beverage or a snack, or a try at a game or two. What if we were a family of four or five?
I hope the NMF Association will follow Bangor’s lead and consider bringing a more affordable fair experience to the County.
