Can you hear me now?

To the editor:
Like Mr. Larry W. Mayes of Lewiston, I too voted for Mike Michaud to represent Maine in Washington. Unlike Mr. Mayes, I tend to judge a politician’s work by the results. As I have grown older, I have developed the skill of being able to watch a football game with the sound turned off. I know how the game is supposed to be played and do not need anyone to tell me how the play was drawn up. If we scored, the crowd cheers and the home team wins. I do not need the quarterback to spend time explaining the play.

If Mr. Mayes needs to have the work of Mike Michaud explained to him, he should just ask a veteran what Mike’s work has meant to them. He should ask the people whom Mike defends every day. Maybe Mr. Mayes should ask Mike’s colleagues about his tireless work ethic and his ability to reach across party lines to get the best for his constituents.
It would seem that Mr. Mayes has a dog in the upcoming fight. I am sure the gentleman he mentions is a fine, capable man with good intentions. However, if you need oratory or crib notes to find out what your leaders are doing, then may I make a suggestion: Call Mike’s office and ask your question. Mike has no secrets and will explain in detail why he voted the way he did.
Mr. Mayes’ inability to hide his disdain for the current administration (ie. “Obamacare” and his rips at the current Speaker) tell the story loud and clear of someone who wishes to return to the Bush years. I, for one, do not. We are very lucky to have Mike Michaud working for us.
As Mr. Mayes said, “The foundation of our nation is at stake” and I would rather have a solid, hardworking public servant working to save the foundation than a self-absorbed cheerleader telling me how great they are. To quote the great John Prine: “Quit hollering at me”
