Carol McElwee, Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) president has announced the group’s 2010 summer plans. Organized in 1956, AREA is the state’s largest county retired educators organization, with more than 400 members.      Noon-time dinner meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month, June through September. These take place in various towns across the County allowing members to have a chance to attend at least one meeting within their own area. AREA volunteer callers contact retirees before each meeting to determine numbers attending. Any retired educator may attain further information about joining and/or attending the dinners by contacting McElwee at 498-8605.
The first dinner meeting this year will be Tuesday, June 29, at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton. This meeting will feature the group’s annual Remembrance Program and a musical program presented by Chloe Wheeler.
On July 27 the scheduled program will be yoga therapy by Sylvia Martin, taking place following the meal at the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Nowland Hall.
The August 31 meeting will be at the Limestone Job Corps Center with a program presenting state office political candidates.
The final session, September 27, will be held at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center during which  Dan Ladner and Janice LaPointe will provide a program of musical entertainment.
All meetings have registration and a social hour starting at 11 a.m. followed by the meal at noon. A short business session is held at each function. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or household staple items for area food pantries.
