ImageImage    HINESVILLE, Ga. and CARIBOU – Master Sergeant (U.S.A. Ret.) Paul Alberic Dumond, 52, passed away at his home June 10, 2010, after a year’s courageous battle with lung cancer.    
    Paul was born June 5, 1958, in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was the third child of Ruth and Elmer Dumond.
    MSG Dumond was a career soldier for 20 years (1978-1998) in the U. S. Army. He deployed with the 24th Infantry Division, Ft. Steward, Ga. to fight in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. After retirement from the Army, he continued to serve his country as a Civil Service Employee at Ft. Stewart as a Mechanic/Supply Clerk.
    Paul was a Knights of Columbus member with the Hinesville Council.
    He served as scoutmaster for his sons’ Troop #50, Ft. Rucker, Ala.
    Paul was a graduate of the Class of 1977, Caribou High School, Caribou, Maine.
    In 1981, he married Patricia A. Jones in Pacific Grove, Calif. Paul and Pat were married 28 years with two sons and one grandson.
    MSG Dumond is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Dumond (Ga.); two sons, Robert W. Dumond (Minn.); and Paul A. Dumond, Jr. (Ga.); grandson, Eli Dumond (Minn.); parents, Ruth and Elmer Dumond (Caribou); three sisters, Jana M. Sparrow, Paige M. Dumond, Victoria A. Dumond (all of Maine); three brothers, Bruce E. Dumond (Hawaii); Brian J. Dumond, and Philip R. Dumond (both of Mich.). Paul had many nieces, nephews and one great-grand niece, one great-grand nephew. We will miss Paul’s smile and quiet strength. He was a special, kind person, a true hero to us all.
    Paul loved animals, especially his cats and dogs. Donations in his honor may be made to Liberty County Humane Shelter, P.O. Box 1481, Hinesville, Georgia 31310.
    Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. on June 16, 2010, at Carter Funeral Home, Ogelthorpe Chapel, Hinesville, Georgia, followed by a memorial service with full military honors at 11 a.m. (www.carterogelthorpe.com)
