PI track athletes compete in PVCs

    BAR HARBOR – The Presque Isle track and field team made the trip Friday for the Penobscot Valley Conference championships, and both the girls finished ninth out of nine teams in the event. 

    Hallie Bartlett was second in the shot put with a distance of 30 feet, 10 inches to pace PI individually.
    The Wildcat girls, who totalled 13 points in the meet, also received a fourth-place effort from Elizabeth Wright in the 3,200-meter run. Her time was 12 minutes, 42.7 seconds.
    Meredith Stewart was sixth in the discus with a throw of 78 feet, 10 inches.
    In the boys’ meet, Justin Good was fourth and Craig Winslow sixth to score points in the javelin throw. Good’s top mark was 133 feet, 8 inches and Winslow’s best throw covered 125-8.
    Josh Allen was the only other Presque Isle athlete to place. He came in fifth place in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet.
    PI totalled seven points in the meet.
    The Bangor girls and boys were the champions. The state meets are Saturday. PI will compete in the B meet in Windham, while Fort Fairfield will participate in the C meet in Dover-Foxcroft.
