The regular season is now complete for boys and girls tennis teams, and both local squads have qualified for the playoffs. In girls tennis, Caribou (12-0, 145.0694) is the third seed in Eastern Maine Class B and hosts No. 6 Belfast (9-3, 77.0139) Thursday, June 3 in the quarterfinals.
A victory would match the Vikings against either No. 2 Mount Desert Island or No. 7 John Bapst in the semifinal round Saturday.
“We were undefeated, and that’s what we were aiming for,” said No. 1 singles player Jenna Selander. “We’re set up pretty good for the playoffs.”
Selander said having a veteran coach like John Habeeb is an advantage in the post-season.
“He’s good at looking at opposing players and seeing their weaknesses,” Selander said. “The input he gives us is always very helpful.”
As for the upcoming playoffs, “we have to keep perfecting our weaknesses in practice and keep our minds on the goal,” she said.
For boys, Caribou (7-5, 72.222) is sixth and travel to take on No. 3 Camden Hills (10-2, 99.6528) in the EM ‘B’ quarterfinals also on Thursday. A victory would put the Vikes into the semifinals against the Presque Isle-Old Town winner on Saturday, June 5.
