Hodgdon unveils honor parts

    HODGDON — Clark Rafford, principal of Hodgdon High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2010.

Valedictorian
    Valedictorian is Wesley Heinrichs, son of Glen and the late Lori Heinrichs of Hodgdon. He is the Principal’s Award honor student and is a National Merit finalist. Wesley has been a four-year member of the high school chorus, a member of the JV basketball team and a community volunteer. Wesley is attending Boston University in the fall, majoring in cellular and molecular biology.

Salutatorian
    Salutatorian is Ashley Ballanger, daughter of Gary and Mary Ballanger of Bancroft. Ashley is president of the National Honor Society and serves on the Dollars for Scholars executive board. She has been the treasurer of her class, both junior and senior year and has been a four-year member of the school’s Envirothon team. Ashley was the recipient of the Rochester University Bausch and Lomb Science Award. She has been recognized by the staff, for both Student of the Month honors and the Golden Rule student, and she has volunteered in many capacities in both the school community and the community-at-large. Ashley will attend the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in mechanical engineering.

First Honor Essayist
    Emmaly Jurson, daughter of Phil and Diane Jurson of Hodgdon, is Hodgdon’s 1st Honor Essayist. Emmaly is president of her class and vice-president of the National Honor Society. She is very active in community service, participating in over fifteen activities every year and giving over 200 hours of service. She has been both co-vice-president of Jobs for Maine Graduates and also its’ community service officer. Additionally, she was a Maine Youth Leadership Ambassador. Emmaly has been very involved in sports, has played on the varsity soccer team and the basketball team for four years. She made the All-Aroostook soccer team her senior year, and rose to the leadership role of captain in both soccer and basketball. Emmaly is very active in her church community and has contributed numerous hours of service to her faith and her family. She will be attending the University of Maine at Fort Kent, majoring in nursing.

Second Honor Essayist

    Michael Morey, son of Gerald and Karin Morley of Hodgdon is 2nd Honor Essayist. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the executive board for Dollars for Scholars. Michael has been vice-president of his class for three years in a row, has been a four-year member of the school’s Envirothon team, 4-H and Upward Bound. Michael was a three-year member of the basketball team, four years on the soccer team, two years on the volleyball team and one year in the chess club. Michael will be attending Husson University in the fall where he has been accepted into the doctorate of physical therapy program.

Third Honor Essayist

    Andrew Lane, son of Michael and Estela Lane of Linneus, is Hodgdon’s 3rd Honor Essayist. Andrew is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the executive board of Dollars for Scholars, He received the University of Rochester’s Xerox Award for technology. He has played baseball for three years and soccer for four years and was captain of the soccer team his senior year. Andrew is an active member of his church and local community, where he has logged over 300 hours of community service. Andrew will be attending Emerson College in Boston where he will be majoring in sound design/audio post production.
