Summaries of their games last week follow:
Old Town 4, Caribou 2 — At Caribou Saturday, in the first game of a doubleheader, Ashley Doucette twirled a strong game in the loss, allowing nine hits and no walks, with three strikeouts for the Vikings. Hannah Morin pitched the win for Old Town.
Jordyn Doucette paced Caribou offensively with two singles and a run. Other Viking hitters were Sare Damboise (RBI double), A. Doucette (2 singles).
For Old Town, Amy Singer and Micayla Hussey each had two singles.
Caribou 7, Old Town 4 — In the second game of the doubleheader, Emily Staples picked up the win inside the pitching circle as she scattered four runs on four hits, with six strikeouts.
“Emily picked up the hard fought win,” Caribou coach Ryan Deprey said. “She did a great job getting out of trouble, as a good hitting Old Town team had runners on each inning after the second inning.”
Presque Isle 5, Caribou 4 – Caribou jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring single runs in both the first and second innings. Ashley Doucette’s two-out RBI double scored her sister Jordyn from third base to open the scoring, while Rebecca McDougal doubled with one out and came across on a wild pitch for the second run.
PI took advantage of lead-off walks surrendered by Staples in both the second and fourth innings and turned both into runs to tie the game.
The Vikes were able to regain the lead in the top of the fifth after Jordyn Doucette reached on a one-out single and scored on Sare Damboise’s RBI single.
Trailing 4-3, the Wildcats were ignited in the bottom of the seventh inning by Chandler Guerrette’s leadoff single. She stole second, was sacrificed to third and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Coffin then drew her third walk of the game, and Shaw again replaced her and advanced to second and third on wild pitches before Kelsey Park drove her home on a ground ball to first base to end the game. “We are so young and we got tight and nervous,” Deprey said. “I give Presque Isle credit, they have one of the best pitcher-catcher combinations in Eastern Maine (Coffin and Kayla Richards) and they were able to get multiple runners on base in five of the seven innings.”
