Ludlow — Master Ora Mooers of New Limerick caught a trout not long ago weighing one and one half pounds and 16 inches in length. He presented the speckled beauty to his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P.M. Mooers who appreciated the gift very highly.
Houlton — Many improvements have been recently made in the interior of the Home Restaurant, which has been newly papered and painted and new lights of the Tungsten 100-candle power have been installed.

Cornerstone — Exercises incident to laying the cornerstone for the new Post Office here will be next Tuesday afternoon. It will be a simple ceremony with a more formal dedication at the opening.
Post Cane holder — Frank Carpenter, Houlton’s oldest citizen and holder of the Boston Post Cane, observed his ninetieth birthday anniversary at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Amos Putnam.
Lack of spirit — Thoroughly disgusted with what they term a total absence of school spirit in Houlton High School, a group of local alumni has decided to speak out. The cry is for noise and there are some good suggestions as how it can be accomplished.

New principal — Joseph McBrine has been named principal of Hodgdon High School.
Population — Houlton’s 1960 population estimate is 8,240 according to John Britton of Bangor, district supervisor of the 1960 census for the Third District.
Drive-In — The annual series of summer Drive-In Church services will begin this Sunday at the Borderland Theatre on the North Road. This will be the fourth consecutive summer that this outdoor church has been conducted by Rev. Robert Decker, pastor of the Military Street Baptist Church.
New street — Birth of a street was recorded on film this week as Alfred Street, off Brook Street made its debut.
Top bowlers — Three of four local bowlers who traveled to Boston earlier this month to bowl in the Record American Bowling Sweepstakes received monetary awards. Ted McIntyre rolled 1,089, Ken Paradis had 1,079 and Ray Cunliffe bowled 1,044. The fourth member of the group, Larry Reece hit 1,014, but was out of the money.

Nominee — Mrs. Catherine Bell was presented the Member of the Year Award from President Cathy Surran at the Business and Professional Women’s Club meeting.
Retiree — George Brown, an employee of the Almon H. Fogg Company for 45 years was honored at a retirement banquet at Ivey’s Restaurant.
New sport — Last summer between 2,000 and 2,500 people gathered at Houlton Community Park to watch one of the fastest growing spectator sports — truck pulling.
New officers — The American Association of University Women elected co-presidents, Peggy Gordon and Jean Collett, Betty Anderson as membership vice-president, Donna Dwyer as program vice-president, Jill Sewell as secretary and Barbara Mintz as treasurer.
