On Saturday May 8, the family of Eva Picard Hazelwood of Limestone gathered at the Oriental Pearl in Presque Isle to honor her 90th birthday. Eva was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick on May 9, 1920. She is the oldest daughter of Onezime and Helen (Lavoie) Picard. Eva and her husband Melvin raised six children in Caswell and Limestone, living as well for short times in Rockland and Bangor in the early years. She has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Eva is well known for her gardening, cooking, quilting, and knitting skills. Many family members and friends have been the lucky recipients of beautiful quilts, afghans, mittens and socks. Her home has always been full of beautiful flowers and often the smell of freshly baked bread. Eve is always ready to give a gift of a slip of one of her thriving house plants. Eva served as president— (as well as other offices — of the Limestone Senior Citizens’ Club. Eva met the challenges of the Great Depression, World War II, and raising a family with resourcefulness and without complaint. Her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and positive attitude are an inspiration to all that know her. Everyone says that she is much younger than her chronological age.
In attendance of the birthday celebration were Eva’s children: Bill (wife Lynn Ann) of Levant; Carolyn Fisher of Caswell; Sandra (husband Dick) Ferland of Hebron and Sandra’s son Brian and his wife Arianne and his daughter Sierra of Chepachet, Rhode Island; Richard Hazelwood of Woodland; and Larry (wife Cindy) Hazelwood of Limestone. Also attending were: Eva’s brother: Ozzie (wife Judy) Picard of Wolcott, Conn., her sister Kathleen Greenier of Dover-Foxcroft, and Eva’s brother-in-law Dale (wife Ellen) Hazelwood of Hampden.
