Candidate Mitchell cares about northern Maine

To the editor:
I want to thank Democratic gubernatorial candidate Libby Mitchell for visiting with people in Aroostook County this week. It often seems that state government ignores those of us who live north of Bangor.

The difficulties faced by those of us who live in northern Maine are different than the rest of the state and it is important that we have someone in Augusta who is interested in and willing to listen to what those difficulties are. I had the pleasure of speaking with Libby on May 19th and was impressed that she was eager to learn about the concerns we have and quick to offer assistance when she could.
As a parent, one of the greatest concerns I have is quality education. Improving education during a time of budget cuts will be one of the most difficult challenges facing the next governor. Libby has a strong history of advocacy in education. She was inspired to get involved with politics by her own experiences when her daughter was entering school.
I feel confident that she will do all she can to support both ends of the state in ways that will encourage our growth.
