PRESQUE ISLE — A local man has been charged with operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol following a May 14 traffic stop, and may face additional charges due to items discovered during a search of the man’s vehicle.

“As a result of a traffic stop around 2 a.m. on May 14, I arrested Adam D. Austin, 29, of Presque Isle, for OUI (operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol),” said Kevin Reed, arresting officer, Presque Isle Police Department.
Reed said subsequent to the arrest, a search of the vehicle turned up a number of weapons.
“There was a loaded handgun, two sets of (metal) knuckles and a knife in the console. A machete was also located under the driver’s seat,” said Reed.
Austin was charged with OUI and processed at the PIPD, with bail conditions to include no use of drugs or alcohol and he must not possess dangerous weapons. Additional charges may be brought at a later date. Austin is scheduled to be arraigned July 21 at Presque Isle District Court.
