Park Street Center aids homeless shelter
ACAP BRIEFS
PRESQUE ISLE — Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) at the Child and Family Center, Park Street, in Presque Isle, decided to collect and donate items to the local homeless shelter for their community project. Families and staff from the center donated items for the shelter, including food, clothing, office and personal care. Children in the morning traditional Head Start classroom presented their donation items to Susan Mitchell, director of Homeless Services of Aroostook. These items will be used to help many local individuals and families that utilize shelter services.
The Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) staff at Park Street Child and Family Center held an annual International Day for all ages. Children and staff traveled with their homemade passports to the countries of Poland, India, Ireland, Australia, Haiti, Canada and Ethiopia, without even leaving the Center. They participated in games, explored terrains, listened to authentic music, tasted unique foods and learned about the histories of each country. Events, such as International Day, take place to prepare children for school and help them learn about the diversity and culture within Aroostook County and throughout the world.
The Park Street and UMPI centers are accepting applications for the upcoming 2010-2011 Early Head Start and Head Start Program year. This program serves ages 0 to 4 years old. For more information, contact Nicole Pryor at 764-0733, ext 300.
