PRESQUE ISLE – Angelika “Angie” Elisabeth Rank Graves, 64, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, surrounded by her family at her home on Third St. She was born July 4, 1945, in Muensing, Germany, the daughter of Richard and Edith Mueller Rank Waetjen.
Angie graduated from Ricker College in Houlton in the class of 1967. While attending Ricker, she met her future husband, Richard Alexander Graves III. They married in August of 1969. The couple returned to Presque Isle in 1972 where she was kept busy raising her three sons and opening an antique shop, The Country Store, on north Main St. in 1984. In 2007, Angie purchased the old Brewer Buick building on the corner of Main and Academy Sts. With great help from her son, Michael, the building was remodeled and transformed into a fine retail store, Merchants on the Corner.
Angie was very active in the Presque Isle Historical Society acting as the society’s curator for a number of years. She was also active in the Quoggy Joe Ski Club and the Women’s Auxillary at A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital. She was an exceptional person, successful in all projects she planned and a most wonderful wife and mother.
She is survived by husband, Richard; and their three children, Richard “Rick” Alexander IV and his wife, Chantel (Cyr), Michael Heinz of Bar Harbor, and Christopher Thomas and his wife, Regina (Bowie). Her grandchildren are: Richard “Alex” (V), Oliver, Max, Quinn, sons of Rick and Chantel, and Kristen, daughter of Chris and Regina. She is also survived by her father and mother, Richard and Edith Waetjen of Gloucester, MA; and a dear brother, Richard and his wife, Patricia, of Chile, S.A. Her best friend and confidant was her daughter-in-law, Chantel.
Angie was predeceased by her biological father, Heinz K. Rank of Germany in 1945.
A graveside memorial is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., and is reserved for the immediate family only. Following will be a gathering of relatives and friends in the Fellowship Hall in the downstairs of the Congregational Church at 11 a.m. One of Angie’s last requests was that friends and relatives wear colorful clothes at the gathering.
