Aroostook Times
Linneus — G.A. McKay was the first farm in town to get his 1910 crop in, having it finished the night of May 14.
Monticello — Mr. Joel Wellington is having his old store remodeled into tenements, which will be a great improvement to the town.
Opening — The Bradbury Store on the corner of Military Street and Foxcroft Road has been opened by Mrs. Thomas Grant.
Anniversary — Eight years ago Tuesday, the 17th of May, was the anniversary of Houlton’s last big fire.
75 Years Ago-May 16, 1935

Local — Mrs. Murch Mersereau, Mrs. Alforetta Mersereau, Mrs. Audbur Thompson, Mrs. John Hall and Mrs. John Law were dinner guests at a picnic dinner and meeting of the Moose Brook Club of Ludlow at the home of Mrs. James Webb. The afternoon was spent quilting.
Kitchen shower — A kitchen shower was held at the home of Helen Gorham, Pleasant Street in honor of Cordelia Putnam, whose marriage to Mr. Harold Inman, popular member of the Houlton High School faculty will be an event of early June. The guest of honor was met at the door with a dainty crepe paper parasol and a ball of yarn attached to its handle. By winding the yarn from around tables and chairs through the parlor and living room she was led to the hall where she found a huge May basket, filled with gaily-wrapped gifts. Each gift sported her chosen color scheme, bright red and an appropriate poem composed by the donor.

Nursing — A letter was received by the Aroostook General Hospital Alumni Association stating that private duty nursing in northern Maine would be $14 per eight hours.
Dedication — The Church of the Good Shepherd will dedicate a major part of its planned building program to Canon Percy G. Cotton, former rector of the parish.
Littleton — Mrs. George Hutchinson accompanied by Judy McBride, Linda and Audrey Graham were in Augusta Saturday to attend the Future Homemakers of America Convention.
Ricker Library — As a result of the “Ricker Library Book Drive” which has been in operation since May 6, Ricker librarian Margaret Akeley announced this week that the total volume count is now over 14,000. Radar — Town Manager Phillip McCarthy advised the Town Council that the Police Department has been directed to use radar as a means of controlling speed on the major streets of town. Mr. McCarthy said that an appeal to motorists to stay within the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit has not worked.
McQuarrie honored — Mildred McQuarrie of Cary Plantation received a ring set with seven diamonds, as a gift for her 35 years with J.C. Penney Company.
New business — Jody and Bernie Webb have opened the Houlton Sports Center on Kendall Street. They offer a complete line of sporting goods including fishing, camping gear, paddles, tennis rackets, golf balls and more.
HRH — Houlton Regional Hospital opened an 11-bed pediatric unit. The hospital Auxiliary provided major funding for the new wing and will forward proceeds from its recent May Brunch. As part of the move to the new pediatric unit, the nursing staff has implemented a pilot project in which nurses on the floor work in 12-hour shifts. “The change in shift hours will improve the continuity of care,” said Lawrence Tonzie, director of nursing.
