CA Panthers still perfect, ’Cats win

    The Central Aroostook Panthers moved to 6-0 on the season after Friday’s 16-3 win at Hodgdon and are now second in the Eastern Maine Class D standings for games played through Monday. 

    The Presque Isle Wildcats defeated Fort Kent last Wednesday as Ethan Braley’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth enacted the 10-run rule and clinched the 12-0 win, as Dillon Kingsbury and Brennen Shaw combined for a two-hit shutout. PI improved to 3-2 with the victory.
    Fort Fairfield (2-3), Ashland (1-3) and Washburn (0-6) have struggled out of the gate and need some wins to have a chance to crack the top-nine in EM Class D and qualify for the post-season.
    Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:
    Madawaska 16, Washburn 1 – At Madawaska Monday, Deejay Gendreau fanned 11 batters in five innings of work as the Owls shut down the winless Beavers.
    Chris Farley, Justin Howe, Trevor Pendexter and Nick Bragg all had singles for Washburn. Farley suffered the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs in the third inning.
    Wisdom 22, Ashland 4 – At St. Agatha Monday, the host Pioneers scored 11 first-inning runs and added seven more in the second in the blowout win.
    Brandon Lavoie had four hits and four RBI for Wisdom, who improved to 5-1.
    Casey Cobb and Lucas Hafford had two hits each for 1-3 Ashland.
    Central Aroostook 16, Hodgdon 3 – Logan McLaughlin drove in three runs and posted the pitching win in the Panthers’ victory Friday.
    Kasey Brewer had a double and a single and Mike McClung two hits for undefeated Central Aroostook.
    Fort Fairfield 20, Washburn 10 – At Fort Fairfield Friday, the Beavers scored the game’s first seven runs, but the Tigers came back with five-run rallies in the three different frames the rest of the way in the comeback win.
    Josh Churchill survived the rough first inning and went the distance on the mound for Fort Fairfield. He led his team offensively with two doubles, a single and two RBI.
    Landon Keizer had two doubles and Landon Towle three singles and three RBI for Fort.
    Justin Howe had three of Washburn’s hits, with Kyle McLaughlin adding a pair of singles.
    Presque Isle 12, Fort Kent 0 – Braley’s three-run blast with one out in the bottom of the fifth ended the game and gave PI the shutout win last Wednesday in Presque Isle’s home opener.
    Shaw was the hitting star for the Wildcats with two singles, a double and two RBI. Kingsbury and Amos Dean both knocked in two runs with a single each.
    Jared Soucy had both Warrior hits.
    Madawaska 10, Fort Fairfield 0 – The Owls blanked the Tigers at Madawaska last Tuesday in the game which ended in the bottom of the fifth due to the 10-run rule.
    Churchill suffered the pitching loss and Andrew Tuck led Fort Fairfield at the plate.
    Southern Aroostook 12, Ashland 0 – At Dyer Brook last Tuesday, Pat Goodall and Dakota Sleeper combined on a one-hit shutout as the Warriors cruised.
    The duo combined for 15 strikeouts. Sleeper had two hits and four RBI to pace the winning attack.
    Jordan Beaulier had Ashland’s lone hit.
    Central Aroostook 15, Limestone-MSSM 1 – The Panthers had an easy time with the visiting Eagles last Tuesday as Dan Brewer and Logan McLaughlin combined to toss a two-hitter.
    McLaughlin had four hits and six RBI, while Mitch Folsom ripped a two-run homer and two singles and Garrett Stiles a double and a single for CA.
    Nate Berube doubled and Nate Tucker singled for the two Limestone-MSSM hits.
    GHCA 31, Washburn 5; GHCA 23, Washburn 7 – At Washburn last Tuesday, the visiting Eagles from Greater Houlton Christian Academy slammed out 32 hits and scored 54 runs in a pair of routs.
    Chad Duff hit a three-run triple and Ethan Brown drove in five runs with three hits in the first game. Sal Viola hit a two-run double and his brother, Tony, had two singles for the Beavers.
    In game two, Ryan Campbell had three hits and scored five runs to lead the winners. Nick Bragg had two hits and scored twice for Washburn.
