ImageCapt. Steven H Pearl, of the Salvation Army, accepts a check for $100 from Rev. Leslie Nesin, priest at the Church of the Good Shepherd, in support of the Salvation Army’s assistance program. The Salvation Army is a major resource in the southern Aroostook area for local clergy who refer requests for financial assistance to that organization. Pearl said “our unduplicated client list has increased by 1,200 new people who had never been to us before.” Most of them, he said, needed assistance with fuel costs and disconnect notices for water and electricity. The church’s donation was a tithe from a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper attended by about 100 guests.
