Smith, Eric R., 98, PRESQUE ISLE, April 6, 2010. Graveside services will be conducted at the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
PRESQUE ISLE – Eric R. Smith, 98, died April 6, 2010, at a local health care facility. He was born May 2, 1911, in Kincardine, New Brunswick, Ca., the son of Sanford and Sarah (Clark) Smith.
He spent many years farming and operating a saw mill in Easton. Eric was just a boy when his uncle gave him his first fiddle. Self taught and never learning to read music, he remembered every tune he ever heard. He played at prestigious events, senior citizens gatherings, as well as those times when it was just family and friends getting together. He was a past member of the Easton Odd Fellows Lodge.
Eric is survived by a son and his wife, Frank E. and Roxann Smith of Presque Isle; two daughters, Cynthia A. Flanagan of Easton, and Lynne R. Dunehew and her husband Dave of Auburn; five grandchildren, Linwood R. Gray, Janet M. Purton, Nicole L. Emerson, Erica A. Hall and Haley M. Smith; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Lowery) Smith in 1998; a brother, James Smith; and two sisters Margaret O’Blenes and Hazel Johnston.
There will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be conducted at the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
