PRESQUE ISLE — Taylor Skidgel was named Little Miss Presque Isle 2010 during the United Way of Aroostook-sponsored pageant, held April 3 at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium.

Jason Parent served as emcee for the night, marking the third time in two weeks he’d performed the duty of pageant host. Following the contestants’ opening number to “Disco Duck,” Parent introduced the judges and auditors. Judges included Andrea Perreault, Chelsea Hopkins and Anna Watt. Auditors were Cindy Flanagan and Sheree Sweeney.
Newly-crowned Miss Presque Isle 2010 Kori Kinney and Junior Miss Presque Isle 2010 Jacqueline “Jackie” Lambert, as well as retiring Little Miss Presque Isle 2009 Molly Kinsgbury, were introduced. The outgoing queen was next to perform, dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
Contestants followed, taking to the stage for the sportswear/modeling walk competition. Kingsbury then introduced the visiting queens. MoonDance All-Star Cloggers, under the direction of Kim Lauritsen, provided entertainment while the 13 contestants prepared for their own talent presentations. Then Junior Miss Presque Isle 2010 returned, performing a James Bond-themed dance routine.
The 13 young ladies returned to the stage, one at a time, to show off their evening gowns during the last portion of the competition. Miss Presque Isle 2010 sang “Leave the Pieces” — this marked the third time in two weeks she’d taken the stage at the high school, singing something different each time. Kinsgbury then appeared for the final time as the reigning queen, making her farewell walk escorted by her father, Robb Kinsgbury.
Contestants gathered on the stage for the finale, the Parade of Gowns, having some fun to the tune “Dancing Queen.”
The evening concluded with the presentation of awards.
In addition to winning the title of Little Miss Presque Isle 2010, Skidgel was named the winner of the physical fitness award and placed second in the talent competition and second for the Miss Hospitality honor, raising $960. The daughter of Don Skidgel and Shawna Page, she performed a tap dance routine to “Rock Around the Clock,” complete with poodle skirt.
Sophia Lambert was named first runner-up and received first place for the talent award, for her tap dance performance to “Fiddly Fee, Fiddly Fo.” She is the daughter of James and Barbara Lambert.
Kacie Chapman, who sang “The Climb,” was named second runner-up. She is the daughter of Travis and Kellie Chapman.
Delani Huston was named third runner-up. The daughter of Shawn and Torri Huston, she combined her dancing and cooking abilities, performing to “If I Knew You Were Coming I’d Have Baked a Cake.”
Alana Legassie, daughter of Herman and Robin Legassie, was named Miss Hospitality for raising $1,116. She sang “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” for her talent.
Rachael Ellis, daughter of Roger and Colleen Ellis, was named third runner-up for Miss Hospitality, raising $592 for this year’s event. For her talent, she sang “Ice Cream Freeze.”
Elise Nelson, daughter of Matthew and Laurie Nelson, performed a dance routine to “Electric Avenue.”
Sipsis Paul performed a Native American dance called “Jingle Dress.” She is the daughter of Nicholas and Waupi Paul.
Hana Boucher, the daughter of Daryl and Stacy Boucher, sang “Amazing Grace” for her talent.
Sydney Robichaud donned attire fitting of Orphan Annie to perform the song “Hard Knock Life.” She is the daughter of Tony and Jennifer Robichaud.
Emma Postell stepped lively for her talent presentation, dancing to “The Charleston.” She is the daughter of Rick and Michelle Postell.
Rebekah Poliero, daughter of Robert Poliero and Jennifer Kich, provided a poetry recital of “Hope is a Thing With Feathers” for her talent.
Meagan Grant performed a monologue entitled “Smile.” She is the daughter of Terrance and Kimberly Grant.
In addition to festivals and parades, Skidgel will now prepare to compete in Fort Fairfield in July during the Little Miss Potato Blossom pageant.
