Portage Lake Centennial Committee
completes duties
by Susan Feeney-Hopkins
The Portage Lake Centennial Committee held its final meeting April 6. A vote was made to decide how to disperse the funds leftover in the account. The committee generously decided the money will go toward the purchase of a new movie projector for the Town Hall, new exercise equipment such as an elliptical machine and a circuit trainer machine to accompany the other equipment in the multi-purpose room, a new hood for the Town Hall kitchen, and any remaining funds shall go toward forming a Portage Lake Historical Society and history preservation.
A big thank you to all of the Centennial Committee members and participants for your hard work and dedication. Sincerely, without you, none of it would have been possible. You have accomplished something you should all feel very proud of. Our town and its centennial celebrations were all creative and fun-filled making our centennial year celebrations one for the history books of the future!

Ashland Cub Scout Pack 179 did a community service project at Northwood Manor recently. The boys are working toward their “Citizenship Belt Loop” and “Citizen Activity” badges which will eventually lead to their advancement to the status of Weeblo.
The boys did a thorough and fantastic job helping the Manor with winter debris cleanup. The ladies at the Manor provided the Scouts with refreshments of iced tea and pumpkin chip cookies. Just what they needed to get the job done! Thanks boys!

The Ashland Central School is currently holding a contest for grade school students as part of the “Campbell’s Labels for Education” and “Box Tops for Education.” The class who has collected the most by May 7 will get a classroom celebration! Anyone wishing to donate labels or box tops can bring them to the grade school. Be sure to mention if you are donating them toward a specific classroom, or if it is a general donation to the cause.
