Briggs, Dana A., 76, March 29, 2010. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
Monticello – Dana Albert Briggs, 76, died March 29, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born April 29, 1933, at Monticello, the son of Albert and Hilda (Crouse) Briggs.
Dana was the owner and operator of Dana’s Auto Body in Monticello for 35 years and was a member of the Monticello Lake Road Church. He was founder and president of the Monticello Fish & Game Club where he donated much energy and many hours to make the club the success it is today. Dana was also a member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks, the Kiwanis Club, the Meduxnekeag Snowmobile Club and the Big 13 ATV Club of Mars Hill. He bowled several years in leagues and coached youth sports. Dana served on the Monticello Town Council of 11 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler. Without question some of the most enjoyable times in Dana’s life were spent at “Miss Mays Camp” at T7R3 with his friend and brother-in-law Woodie. Their many hunting and fishing trips gave him happiness that only those two would understand. Dana was very well known for his beautiful display of Christmas lights on the house and many trees. He was a very caring and generous man who was always willing to give of himself to help others. This is something that many of the residents in Monticello truly understand.
Dana is survived by his wife of 57 years Dolores A. (Dunphy) Briggs of Monticello; his son Douglas A. Briggs and his wife Patty of East Windsor, CT; his daughter Debra Briggs Grass of Brewer; six grandchildren, Travis Noyes, Mickey Mitton, Derek, Ryan, Kevin and Molly Briggs, two great grandchildren, Tiana & Quincy Mitton & their mother Jessica Plauman; one sister Phyllis Beaton and her husband Elmer; brother-in-law Eugene Foster. He also leaves behind his very best friend, hunting & fishing buddy, brother-in-law Woodie Dunphy and his wife JoAnn; several very special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Sylvia Foster and his infamous cat George.
A loving and special thanks to Woodie and JoAnn Dunphy and their families who were there for Dana and his family throughout his entire illness and to all the nurses and doctors at Houlton Regional Hospital for their wonderful care of Dana and concern for his family and for the compassion of Jane Zimmerman and her Hospice Team and also the Lake Road Church Family.
