UMPI will host the 30th annual Spring Runoff 5K Road Race, a fundraiser for the men’s and women’s cross country teams, Saturday, April 10 beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Wieden Hall on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus.
Registration for runners and walkers begins at 8 a.m. For more information, call 768-9472.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program International (OAPI) has a couple events lined up for the remainder of the spring.
A Wilderness First Aid Certification will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18. This certification covers CPR and First Aid plus advanced skills for outdoor emergencies. Registration deadline is Monday, April 12. Cost is $100. For more information, contact Anja Whittington at 768-9537.
On Saturday, May 8, outdoor rock climbing at Acadia National Park is planned. Rain date is Sunday, May 9. Get outside and climb real rock with a certified rock climbing guide. No experience is required. The group will leave Gentile Hall at 5:30 a.m. and return by 10 p.m. Cost for UMPI students is $30; $40 for non-students. Registration deadline is Monday, May 3.

The Houlton Softball Association is also gearing up for its fifth annual ‘Beat The Heat’ men’s softball tournament, tentatively scheduled for June 4-6.
This will be a double-elimination tournament with prizes, a homerun contest, food, drinks and a lot of fun. Players do not have to be in the Houlton league to participate in the tournament.
The entry fee is $170, and T-shirts are awarded to the champions. Last year’s tournament featured all local teams, including a team from Calais, as well as teams from Augusta and Presque Isle.
