On April 20, a team from the Caribou Recreation and Parks Department will travel to Presque Isle for a dodgeball tournament for youths in grades 4-6. Pre-registration is required.
There will be a toddler time family evening event held on Tuesday, April 20 from 5:30-7 pm at the Caribou Recreation Center. This program, being offered by Healthy Families, will include music, art, science, story time and more. Parents must attend with children. The Take It Outside Seniors Series is offering a trip to a local sugar shack for seniors ages 55 and over on Wednesday, April 21. The fee is $7 per person. This trip is limited so pre-registration is required.
High schoolers looking to fulfill their community service hours and/or citizens who enjoy Caribou’s open spaces and want to give back to the community, join the recreation department in commemorating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with a park clean-up day on Thursday, April 22. Pre-registration is required.
Youths in grades 6-8 are invited to come and climb Haystack Mountain on Thursday, April 22. The fee is $5 and pre-registration is required.
On April 22, the department will host a wiffle ball tournament for youths in grades 4-6. A team from Caribou play against surrounding towns. Pre-registration is required.
For those folks that might be Percy Jackson fans, the Northern Stars Planetarium will be offering a live storytelling presentation on Greek and Roman myths about the stars and constellations on Friday, April 23. There will be two showings, one at 1 p.m. and another at 2:30 p.m. The fee is $2 per person and seating is limited, therefore pre-registration is required.
Those who simply wish to understand what they are looking at when they look up into the night sky are invited to attend a presentation by Northern Stars Planetarium entitled, The Wonderful Sky. This program will take a look at the night sky from your perspective and talk about stars, constellations, visible planets, meteors, the moon, northern lights and more. The show is on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Admission is $2 per person and space is limited, pre-registration is required.
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department and the Caribou Little League will host the Pitch, Hit and Run competition on May 8 at the Caribou Little League fields. This competition is for boys and girls ages 7-14. (Age as of July 17, 2010) Pre-registration is required and the registration deadline is May 6.
This fundamental instruction clinic is offered to boys and girls ages 9-12. Each session deals with the mechanics and the breakdown of individual positions on a baseball team. This program began last week and will run through April 15. Ages 9-10 meets Monday and Wednesdays from 3-4:30 p.m. and ages 11-12 meets Tuesday and Thursdays from 3-4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
This program introduces youths to the basic fundamentals of running, throwing and jumping. Boys and girls participating in the program may be eligible to move onto the regional finals. This program is for boys and girls ages 9-14 and runs from April 26 through June 10. The program meets Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
Walking hours at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center are 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays.
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will conduct its first organizational meetings for men’s and co-ed softball on Tuesday, April 20. The men’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., while the co-ed meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Caribou Recreation Center on Bennett Drive.
Any team wishing to participate in the leagues this summer should have a representative at the meeting. Anyone who is not on a team and wishes to play may call the recreation center at 493-4224 to get their names on a list that will be passed on to the team representatives at the meeting.
