Kenneth Atcheson, social studies instructor at the Caribou High School has announced that the Social Studies Department at CHS will host Max Slabotzy, a survivor of the Holocaust from Ixelles, Belgium, on Thursday, April 15 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Slabotzy will speak about his capture, imprisonment at the Auschwitz Death Camp, the Brobeck and Goleszow Labor Camps and his eventual liberation by elements of Soviet Army. Mr. Slabotzy will also speak about how his mother survived one of Dr. Joseph Mengele’s (the Angel of Death at Auschwitz-Birkenau) experiments.
According to Atcheson, this event is open to the public and will feature an opportunity to pose questions to Mr. Slabotzy. “We anticipate that Mr. Slabotzy will speak for about 45 minutes beginning at 10 a.m. and will follow up his presentation by taking questions from the audience.
