Hockey season ends

    The Cary/Pines and Wal-Mart Atoms hockey team ended their season in recent tournaments.  
    The Bangor Friendship Tournament was played Feb 26 and 27, with Presque Isle sweeping all their games. 

    Presque Isle defeated PVHC in the first game, 14-0, and then downed Casco Bay, 9-1, and Bangor Red, 8-1.
    PI then played in the New Brunswick Hockey year-end tournament March 19 and 20. Following a 5-4 loss to Plaster Rock, PI blanked the Carlton Devils, 7-0, and then dropped a 5-4 decision to Southern Victoria II.
    The team went 11-3 on the regular season and accumulated a 12-8-1 mark in tournaments for a combined record of 23-11-1.
    PI goalies faced 564 shots, stopping 448 and letting in 116 goals. PI took 965 shots, with 211 going in and 754 being saved
    The team consisted of goalie Heinz Schumacher, offensive players Sarah Beaulieu, Austin Bouchard, Alex Brewer, Connor Hebert, Devin Ireland, Tyler Levesque, Isaac Madore, Thomas Patenaude and Ryan Player and defensemen Eric Benson, Gregory Jellison, Greyson Sonntag and Denny Young
The team’s coaches were Pierre Patenaude and Scott Madore and assistant coaches included Tim Belden,
Terry Levesque and Kevin Schumacher.
    The First Wind novice team played its final game on Saturday March 13 against Woodstock, New Brunswick in Houlton.
    The team played one of its strongest games of the year despite losing, 6-4. Ian Michaud put on goalie gear for the first time this season and faced 16 shots, while PI took 33 shots on Woodstock’s seasoned goalie. 
    Bailey York and Jake Stevens scored two goals each for the First Wind squad.
    Adian Johnson, Torey Levesque and Caleb Lagasse led the strong defense, while Landyn Newlands, Jake Stevens, Bailey York and Nic Morningstar were all solid on offense.
    Bob Davis, Terry Levesque, Bub York and Doug Carlisle served as the team’s coaches.
