University offers wilderness first aid course

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will offer a two-day wilderness first aid course, April 17 and 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is specifically designed for guides, camp counselors, outdoor enthusiasts and practitioners. Those needing to renew their Wilderness First Responder card may take this course to recertify.
This 16-hour program covers topics ranging from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment.
Classroom lectures and discussions are supplemented by practical work and problem-solving exercises — including hands-on experience, as scenarios are an important part of the training. Deadline to register is April 12.
For further information about the course, contact anja.whittington@umpi.edu, 768-9537. To register, call the Gentile Hall front desk at 768-9772.
