To the editor,
Aren’t we supposed to be the Vacationland State? It sure doesn’t look like it as I travel from Houlton to Biddeford and then from Biddeford to Houlton. What happened to all our rest areas that were shut down by our government? People have nowhere to throw their trash, so out the window it goes throughout our state. It is disgusting. I’ve been traveling back and forth, maybe three times a year for the last 20 years, to visit Biddeford family. The highway is now the most disgusting I’ve ever seen it. Pretty soon, if not already, we will be no different from other states.
Our state is called the Vacationland State for a reason — why not give our people, as well as visitors from other states and countries, a place to take a break from driving, use restrooms, walk their dogs and throw out their trash in trash containers. It all seems pretty righteous calling this a Vacationland State and then have so few amenities for vacationers to enjoy as they travel to recreation points within our state. Our state is not looking so beautiful anymore. People, take a good look at our state! No place for garbage, sounds foolish.
