Currier captures biathlon

    FORT KENT – Stockholm native Russell Currier wrapped up the United States/North American Biathlon Championships in style, taking the gold medal in the men’s 15-kilometer mass start held March 21 at the 10th Mountain Ski Center.

    Currier, a member of the Maine Winter Sports Center team, hit 15 of 20 targets in his four rounds of shooting and took the title in a time of 42 minutes, 35.4 seconds.
    Quebec’s Marc-Andre Bedard won the silver in the North American Championships in 43:21.8. Walt Shepard was third overall in 44:17.8.
    It was a strong ending of the competition for Currier, who had placed fifth in the March 18 sprint race and sat out the pursuit race on March 20.
