Town Homecoming Weekend scheduled in Van Buren

For those who think that Van Buren is a great place to live, visit and do business, you’re not alone: a new citizens group called GO Van Buren has formed to promote the town and their first event is scheduled to be a Homecoming for town alumni during the last weekend in June.     Group organizers Dr. Paul Vaillancourt and Elanore Varley realized — through the success of Van Buren’s SummerFest 2009 — that there were numerous opportunities and civic needs that could not be effectively served by existing organizations.
According to Vaillancourt and Varley, Go Van Buren was formed as a means to serve the community as a whole rather than being limited by any specific commercial, geographic, religious or fraternal commitments.
Plans for Homecoming Weekend are still in the works, but the agenda is shaping up to most likely include welcoming mixers, a dance, dinner and a wide variety of activities aimed a reacquainting former residents with the hometown as it is now and looks to be in the future.
Individuals interested in learning more about the Go Van Buren organization are encouraged to view the group’s Web site at www.govanburen.com, and those interested in being part of the Homecoming Weekend project can call 868-5803 or e-mail vbbooster1@aol.com.
