Red Carpet treatment for local contestants

    With “Red  Carpet Magic” the theme for the evening at the Caribou Performing Arts Center, 10 young Caribou ladies vied for the title, of Miss Pre-Teen , Miss Teen and Jr. Miss Caribou.

     Contestants were judged in areas of physical fitness, talent, evening gowns and interviews. Guest judges for the event were Kathy Ouellette of Woodland, Heather Maynard of Caribou; and Andrea Cole from Caribou.
    In an array of bustling gowns in a rainbow of colors, the contestants gathered onstage along with reigning and newly crowned Caribou queens to hear the final decisions announced.
    2010 Caribou Royalty include: Samantha Fortin, the first-ever Miss Pre-Teen Caribou; Victoria Keaton, Jr. Miss Caribou; and Hannah Hebert, Teen Miss Caribou.
    First runners-up to the titles of Miss Pre-Teen, Jr. Miss and Teen Miss Caribou are, respectively: Kyleigh DeMerchant, Melanie Biggs and Ashley Ouellette. Named to the honor of Miss Congeniality by their fellow contestants were: Samantha Fortin, Melanie Biggs and Ashley Ouellette.
    Constestants in the Pre-Teen Miss Caribou  competition included the following.
    Kyleigh Emma DeMerchant, the daughter of Kent and Lori DeMerchant, who sang, “Maybe,” from the Broadway musical, “Annie. Kyleigh’s sponsors for the 2010 pageant were Scott and Candy Nevers, Melanie and Raymond Carmichael, Phillip and Carla DeMerchant and Lori DeMerchant Counseling Services.
    Samantha Irene Fortin is the daughter of Robert and Robin Fortin and she was sponsored by County Physical Therapy, Dr. Cindy Bouchard and family and friends. For her talent the newly crowned Pre-Teen Miss Caribou performed a baton routine to, “Party in the U.S.A.”
    Alexis Guillemette, the daughter of Patti Romano and Ron Guillemette, Jr. was sponsored by the Caribou Bowl-a-drome. For her talent Alexis presented a monologue titled, “ This is the News.”
    Krista Michaud, the daughter of Danny and Tina Michaud, performed a Hip-Hop dance routine during the talent presentations. Her participation in the pageant was sponsored by family and friends.
    Contestants competing for the Jr. Miss Caribou title included the following young ladies.
    Monica Rae Alley, the daughter of Eric and Roxann Alley, was sponsored by Griffeth Ford. Monica played  violin selections of, “Ode to Joy,” and  the “Can, Can”
    Mallory Patterson, who performed a Hip-Hop dance routine to, “Party in the U.S.A,” is the daughter of Steven and Kimberly Patterson. Mallory’s sponsor for the 2010 Pageant was Frederick’s Southside.
    Victoria Leigh Keaton, the daughter of Michael and Susan Keaton, presented a vocal selection of “A Tisket, A Tasket,” Crowned Jr. Miss Caribou, 2010, Victoria was sponsored by friends and family.
    Melanie Biggs, the daughter of Tammy and John Rines, preformed a Hip-Hop dance to, “Play That Funky Music.” Melanie was sponsored by Dead River Co., and employees at Northeastern Supply Co.
    The two contestants seeking the 2010 Teen Miss Caribou crown were Hannah Hebert and Ashley Ouellette.
    Hannah is the daughter of Gary and Jola Hebert, and was sponsored by the Maine Dance Academy. For her talent she danced on pointe to “Beautiful.”
    Ashley Ouellette, the daughter of Luke and Christine Ouellette, was sponsored by McElwain’s Strawberry Farm. For her pageant talent Ashley sang, “Long and Winding Road.”
    Special entertainment throughout the evening pageant was presented by Regan Buck, the reigning Jr. Miss Potato Blossom Queen, who provided a piano selection of the theme song from the movie, “Up”
    Also performing during the triple crown affair was Emma Duplissie Cyr, the reigning Jr. Miss Caribou, singing, “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and 2009 Teen Miss Caribou Brianna Gorence, who danced to the music of “Dancing Queen.”
