Michaud did the right thing

To the editor:
I would like to comment on a letter appearing in the March 24 issue of the Star-Herald that blasted Mike Michaud for his vote on the controversial health care bill.

It is saddening that so many of us in today’s society seem to have no empathy for our fellow man/woman/child. It is shameful that there are those in our great country that have to face such devastating chaos, because of health care situations. And, it is not something that cannot be corrected.
I would be willing to bet that regardless of what they might tell the pollsters, nearly 100 percent of the residents of our great state, were it one of their neighbors or relatives that were facing financial disaster, would want to see them get help from some source. It is the responsibility of our government to help eliminate these situations. This bill is a badly needed start, which hopefully can mutate into a model health care system.
This “I’ve got mine, and if you don’t have yours that’s tough” attitude that seems to be so common in our country today is nothing to be proud of. I don’t know about you but I’m certainly getting tired of all the “hate” that is being spewed about today.
The national financial problems the country faces today is another situation that should be addressed accordingly and should not be used to discourage or deny health care for all U.S. citizens. Perhaps the reason the problems are there should be questioned.
To those who would question motive, I have no axe to grind. Medicare is taking very good care of my wife and I. We do not know Mike Michaud, have never met him, but I assure you he gets our vote the next time he runs for office. He did the right thing.
