Dancers will take to the floor at the ACI Building Saturday, March 27, to help raise money for Bobbi’s Build an Ear fund. Stephanie Caverhill, of Northern Massage & Wellness Center in Presque Isle, said the Zumba-thon will be a two-hour event, held from 10 a.m. to noon, to help the Guerrette family raise money for their daughter’s surgery. For those who don’t want to bother with pledge sheets, Caverhill said the $10 registration fee goes directly to the fund. Pledge sheets will be available for anyone interested. The top two fund-raisers will receive Zumba punch cards.

SAD 42 will be having registration for the 3-, 4- and 5-year-old programs for the 2010-11 school year. The registration will be held on Thursday, April 8, at the Fort Street School and is open to 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children of the Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater area.
Pre-school students must be either 3 or 4 years of age on or before Oct. 15. Students who will be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for kindergarten. Please contact Fort Street School at 429-8514 or 429-8515 or 429-8466 to schedule an appointment to register your child.
The State of Maine requires: (1) Proof of Immunizations, (2) Birth Certificate (hospital copies are not acceptable. A copy must be obtained from the municipal office of the town or city where you were living when the child was born). SAD 42 requires these documents at the time of registration.
Parents registering children for the 3- and 4-year-old programs are asked to bring proof of income to the appointment. If you are not a legal parent, a copy of guardianship papers (probate court) must be completed before registration. Those students currently enrolled in the 3- and 4-year-old programs do not need to register.
If you have any questions, please call the school for further details.
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, March 16, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Nancy Chandler, supervisor of Energy Services and Education with Maine Public Service. She spoke about saving energy and the various ways that each person can help.
A typical home would have leaks around windows, doors, etc., that would equal a 1-inch diameter hole. A savings of anywhere from 10 to 50 percent can be realized just by sealing these leaks. It is also very important to install any insulation properly.
Lighting is another way that a person can see savings. Changing the five most used lights in a home to CFL bulbs could see a savings of over $125 per year. Keeping a refrigerator set at the right temperature and the coils clean will save energy, as will the use of low-flo showers and Energy Star-rated appliances.
Other energy users in a home are the electronics that run 24/7 such as computers, TVs, chargers, etc. A savings can be seen by being sure to turn off and unplug such devices when not in use. Using a power strip can make it easier to turn off all the items that are plugged into it.

DONATION WILL DOUBLE — Kim Delano, at left, of the Mars Hill & Blaine Winterfest Committee, presented Dixie Shaw of Catholic Charities with the winnings from Cow Chip BINGO. Dixie is especially thrilled with this donation, as they currently have a matching grant challenge, so this $500-plus donation will double!

COW MAKES CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION — Dale, a 9-month-old baby beef steer owned by Rachel Donovan of Blaine, is Catholic Charities newest favorite animal. During Cow Chip BINGO at Winterfest activities in Mars Hill recently, Dale "chose" a blank square, meaning that the $500 prize went to Catholic Charities, along with a 10 percent share of the net proceeds. Sponsored by the CAHS Class of 2013, almost half of the blocks were sold.

LIBERTY AND JAMISON FULTON enjoyed the hotdogs and fries served up at the CAHS FFA Baked Potato Bar during this year's Winterfest activities.
