Who did roadside assistance?

Wade Thurston, chairman of the Car Show for the festival, has lined up several features including trophy classes and other features. There will be categories including antique cars, trucks and farm trucks with years ranging from pre-1950 and 1950s. Categories include cars from the 1960s and 1970s, to cars from the 1980s to the present. Special categories will also include other vehicles such as cycles, trikes and even one for street rods. The day’s event will also feature door prizes, and sponsors are needed. Donations of $125 for one class of trophies (first, second and third) $85 for people’s choice trophy and an open $50 donation. For further information, contact Wade Thurston at 760-8178 or 551-6438.
It is hoped that the return of the annual Car Show can also solve a mystery of sorts. In the history of the area, there was a group who gave roadside assistance to motorists at no cost, just were there when help was needed. The group was called “Quick Shifts Hot Rod Club,” and no other information is available on them. If there are any older car enthusiasts around who might give us more information, please contact Wade Thurston at 760-8178 or 551-6438 or e-mail gramchristie@yahoo.com from the Star-Herald Washburn column.

This picture was taken at the log cabin at the Mill Pond in 1953 of Boy Scouts going on a hike or other activity with their mascot dog. If anyone recalls what Scout troop this represents, please contact Christie Cochran. When the Washburn Scouts started up again in 1965, they were established as Troop 177. The Scouts met at the log cabin for their meetings.
