Track officials clinic scheduled
    The Maine Association of USA Track & Field will conduct a track and field officials’ clinic on Sunday, March 28 in the Orono council chambers, Town Office Building, 59 Main Street. Registration is at noon and the clinic will go from 1-4:30 p.m.     The clinic is for anyone is for anyone interested in officiating track and field at the youth, high school or collegiate level and for those becoming certified or re-certified.
    Don Berry, master official in the sport and the certification chairperson for Maine USATF, will conduct the clinic, which is designed to provide both a beginning and advanced levels on instruction and will cover all aspects of track and field officiating and rules review.  
    Track coaches and track parents who want to learn more about the rules are encouraged to attend the clinic.

    There is no cost for the clinic. Track rule books will be provided for purchase and testing material will also be available. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Forsman takes state hotshot title
    The state hot shot competition was held at the Portland Expo March 7, with a pair of Aroostook County sharpshooters claiming titles.
    In the 16-18 girls division, Meghan Frank of Easton scored 63 points to take first place uncontested.
    In the 16-18 boys category, Josh Forsman of Limestone scored 118 points to defeat runner-up and fellow County resident Andrew Legassie of Presque Isle, who had 117 points. Two other boys competed in the age group.
    Other results from the northern region were as follows: 9-10 girls, Cassidy Pelletier of Ashland, second, 109 points; Rachel Soucy of Caribou, fourth, 81 points; 11-12 girls, Kylee Carter of Easton, third, 89 points; Alexis Levesque of Madawaska, seventh, 65 points; 13-15 girls, Abigail Poole of Easton, fifth, 82 points; Taylor Brown of Easton, seventh, 60 points.
    Also, 9-10 boys, Dawson Hebert of Caribou, third, 101 points; Evan Desmond of Caribou, fourth,  93 points; Lucas Craig of Ashland, fifth, 91 points; 11-12 boys, fifth, Tyler Dombroski of Caribou, fifth, 94 points; 13-15 boys, Matt Curry of Caribou, second, 117 points; Jared Hafford of Easton, seventh, 94 points.
Volleyball tourneys slated
    Aroostook League volleyball titles will be up for grabs during tournaments held in four different locations this week.
    The larger schools have their competition this afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m., with Fort Kent, Caribou, Madawaska, Presque Isle and Houlton all set to take part. The girls tourney will be played at Caribou High School and the boys tourney at Presque Isle High School.
    The small schools take the court later in the week. The girls tournament is Friday at Washburn, beginning at 2 p.m., and the boys touney is Saturday at Fort Fairfield High School, starting at 9 a.m.
    Along with the host schools, expected to take part are Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Wisdom, Limestone/MSSM, Easton, Van Buren, Ashland, Central Aroostook and Katahdin.
Meeting slated for fast-pitch league
    A girl’s fast-pitch softball travel team for 11- and 12-year-olds is being formed in the Caribou area. Girls from Caribou, Woodland, Stockholm, New Sweden, Limestone, Fort Fairfield and other surrounding communities are welcome to try out.
    An organizational meeting will be held Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center on Bennett Drive.     Please contact Mal Walker at 493-1191 for more information.
