SKATE SHOW — Chelsey Carroll performs Saturday afternoon at the 2010 Musical on Ice show at the Northern Maine Forum in Presque Isle. Young skaters, and a few young at heart ones as well, dazzled the crowds during two shows. The event is the grand finale for the Northern Maine Figure Skating Club, marking the end of the skating season. More skating photos will appear in next week’s Star-Herald.

PRESQUE ISLE — Skaters young and old alike took to the ice of the Northern Maine Forum Saturday in a pair of shows for the 2010 Musical on Ice extravaganza.
Set to the theme “So you think you can Skate” participants glided across the ice to a variety of choreographed numbers based on such dance styles as two step, cha cha, hip hop, contemporary, jitterbug, Charleston, salsa, samba and jive.
Featuring a silver-and-black backdrop, the Forum was transformed into a Hollywood-style theater, complete with lights circling the rink. Skaters glided across the ice in elaborate costumes and showcased a number of impressive skating skills, including axels, spirals, sit spins, flying camels and footwork.
Skaters from age 3 to adult participated and hailed from Presque Isle,  Caribou, Mapleton, Fort Fairfield, Easton and Washburn.
Coaches for the event were Haley Kelley, Cortney Rector, Katie Smith, Jessica Scott and Shayna da Cruz.
