Fundraiser to aid ASAP

Since its initiation in 2007, ASAP Coalition has implemented diverse substance abuse prevention activities throughout Aroostook County. Coalition work is funded through a 5-year federal grant, which will end in 2.5 years. ASAP Coalition is not planning to stop county-wide prevention work when federal funding ends in 2012. Instead, it is will hold a number of fund-raising events over the next two years with the goal of establishing an endowment fund that will allow for continuation of prevention work.
The first fund-raiser — Move It and Groove It Aroostook — will be modeled after “So You Think You Can Dance.” Dancers ages 6 and older (adults included) who live in Aroostook County are eligible to perform in the event, which will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Audience participation in voting for the competition winner will be a key part of this event.
“The success of this event will depend largely upon the involvement of dancers from throughout Aroostook County,” said Clare Desrosiers, ASAP Coalition’s project director. “Should we have strong participation and attendance at this year’s event, we would plan to host this fund-raiser every year. We hope that “Move It and Groove It Aroostook” will become a fun, family activity that community members can look forward to every year.”
Kathy Mazzuchelli, chairperson of the ASAP Coalition said, “We are really excited to show off more of Aroostook’s talent.  We know that Aroostook has some great singers, now we are going to profile some great dancers.” Mazzuchelli encourages dancers of all ages to come join in on the fun.
Admission will only cost $8 per person. To register to dance in the competition or to buy tickets, visit your local Key Bank or go to www.asapcoalition.com/move-n-groove.html All profits earned from this fund-raiser will be put toward an endowment fund to sustain ASAP Coalition’s county-wide prevention efforts.
