Brandt, Carlton G., 64, March 7, 2010.  Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment to be held in the Village Cemetery, Monticello.     COLUMBIA, SC – Carlton G. “Corky” Brandt, 64, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, after an extended illness. Born April 10, 1945, in Woodbury, NJ, he was a son of the late Catherine Chew Brandt and Charles Russell Brandt, Sr.
    Corky was a longtime educator who taught for 36 years at Hodgdon High School, retiring in 2004. While at Hodgdon, he was honored for his “Black Bear” study by being elected to the Access Excellence program, a national program honoring innovative science teachers. He also served on the board of Dollars for Scholars and was known for the “baked bean suppers” which he put on in order to raise money for Dollars for Scholars.
    Corky loved working with young people and returned to teaching in South Carolina for Irmo High School and Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. He was the waterfront director at Camp Caribou, in Waterville, for thirty years. Corky was an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow recipient and a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Houlton. He was also a member of Monument Lodge of Houlton. Corky was a former member of First Congregational Church of Houlton and a member of the McGregor Presbyterian Church of Irmo, SC.
    Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Carolee Sikes Brandt; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Saltal of Marshalls Creek, Pa; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Katherine Brandt of Columbia; grandson, Noah Thomas Brandt; brother, Charles Russell Brandt of New Jersey; “grandmom” Fay Sikes of Columbia; several nieces and nephews and great nieces.
    A memorial service for Corky was held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the McGregor Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Houlton-Hodgdon Chapter of Dollars for Scholars, Hodgdon High School, Hodgdon Mill Road, Hodgdon, Maine 04730.
