Hartin twins, Hotham part of McDonald’s all-star festivities

    BANGOR, Maine – The 2010 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Games and Awards Banquet are set for this weekend at Husson University, and a few local players are either being recognized or taking part in the event.

Central Aroostook High School seniors Brianna and Chelsea Hartin were two of 10 players from throughout the state making it on the Girls’ All-State All-Academic Team. They will be honored at the awards banquet taking place Friday evening.

The other All-Academic girls selections are Gabrielle Donahue of Cape Elizabeth, Katelyn Day of Central, Meghan Keane of Foxcroft Academy, Laura Getchell of Gray-New Gloucester, Lindsey Gori of Marshwood, Morgan McClean of Lake Region, Caitlin Hanley of Oxford Hills and Kelsey Ouellette of Winthrop.
Other award presented Friday include all-star players, all-star coaches, regional foul shooting champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game, the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches contributor award and Mr. and Miss Basketball.

On Saturday, the state foul shooting championship will take place. Matt Till, a junior representing Caribou High School, and Amanda Hotham, a sophomore representing Fort Fairfield High School, were the northern region winners and will compete against the other regional winners.
The other boys participants are Jacob Jones of Penobscot Valley High School, Cameron Mitchell of Waterville High School and Kyle Randall of Cheverus. Other girls competing are Hannah Pray of Central, Alanna Vose of Medomak Valley High School and Kayla Burchill of Deering.
Saturday’s schedule includes the foul shooting championship at 8:30 a.m., the girls’ Class C and D game at 9:15 a.m., a three-point shooting competition at 10:45 a.m., the girls’ Class A and B game at 11 a.m., the boys’ Class A and B game at 1:15 p.m., a slam dunk competition at 2:30 p.m. and the boys’ Class C and D game at 3 p.m.
Representing Aroostook County in the games are Taylor Boucher of Fort Kent, Vanessa Sanderson of Houlton and Elizabeth Goodall of Southern Aroostook, all members of the East girls’ C and D team, and Dakota Sleeper of Southern Aroostook, a member of the East boys’ C and D team.
Game day tickets may be purchased at the door for $7 for adults and $5 for students, children and senior citizens.
Net proceeds from the games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine, a non-profit organization whose goal is to help Maine children and families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives.
Since its founding in 1989, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $1.5 million to local children’s programs that make a measurable impact in our communities.
