Nickerson, Edwin E., 64, PRESQUE ISLE, in Boston, March 1, 2010. Interment with Military Honors will be conducted later in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan Graves Funeral Home.
PRESQUE ISLE – Edwin E. Nickerson 64, died March 1, 2010 at a Boston hospital. He was born July 12, 1945 in Presque Isle, the son of Ralph L. Nickerson and Audrey (Smith) Nickerson Lannigan. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.
Ed received a B.S. Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Husson College and also took courses in bank management and administration at the University of New Hampshire. He then began a long career in banking, finance and promoting business in Aroostook County. Ed had been employed by several area banks, dealing mainly with commercial lending, as well as offering his expertise to several other area businesses and organizations. He was currently involved with several economic development organizations including, Vice Chair and Revolving Loan Director of Northern Maine Development Commission, member Economic Development Council of Maine, Board member of Presque Isle Development Fund, Secretary and one of the founding members of the Northern Maine Finance Corp., and most recently Director of Economic Development at LDA.
Ed’s interest and concern for his community led him to serve as the current Chairman of the Presque Isle City Council, past president and active member of the Northern Maine Fair Assoc., and several other local civic organizations. Ed was a Foundation Board member and great supporter of Northern Maine Community College. He saw the benefit of continuing education and helped oversee the Ryan Clark Scholarship Fund at NMCC.
Ed also enjoyed sports especially golf, and was a long time supporter and past treasurer of the Caribou Little League.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Cheney) Nickerson of Presque Isle; two sons, Robert Eager and his wife Renee of Presque Isle, and David Eager of Wooster, OH; a daughter, Tamie Jarvis of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Tyler and Matthew Eager, and Jenice and Kenedy Jarvis, all of Presque Isle; two brothers Charles Nickerson and his wife Cheryl of North Carolina, and Myron Nickerson and his wife Donna of Florida; a step-brother, Philip Lannigan of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. Immediately following the service, there was a time to meet with the family, to continue sharing memories, at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. Interment with Military Honors will be conducted later in the spring. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to C-A-N-C-E-R, P.O.
