PRESQUE ISLE — A local man is facing several charges, including child endangerment, stemming from a chase Saturday night in the Star City.
At about 10:10 p.m. March 6, Officer Larry Fickett, of the Presque Isle Police Department, attempted to stop a motor vehicle for a criminal speed (a motor vehicle speeding 30 mph over the speed limit) violation on Main St.
According to the PIPD log, a low-speed chase ensued. Starting on Main St., Fickett followed the vehicle to Mic Mac Drive, where a Presque Isle man, identified as 40-year-old Jerry Monahan, was arrested without incident.
Monahan had his 12-year-old daughter in the motor vehicle at the time of the chase.
Monahan was charged with: driving to endanger, operating under the influence, refusing to stop for a law enforcement officer, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal speeding and two counts of operating without a license. Monahan reportedly refused to submit to a chemical test. He was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center by Sgt. Mark Barnes and Officer Roger Ellis to be medically cleared (physically capable of going to jail).
Monahan was later transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. Bail was set at $2,500 cash or $10,000 surety. He has since been arraigned, with a trial date in Presque Isle District Court set for April 23. Monahan was unable to make bail and remains at the jail.
Police indicated the child had been turned over to the care of Monahan’s girlfriend, following the incident.
