Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.  New Rotarians welcomed into the club were Bob Lento and Mitch Ross.
Upcoming activities for the club include the baked ham dinner on Friday, March 12, during Winterfest, the Miss Greater Mars Hill and Little Miss Mars Hill pageants on April 10, and the Health Fair on May 1.
The special speaker was Ralph McPherson, Rotary assistant district governor in District 7810. He spoke about Rotary International being an organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service throughout the world. There are currently about 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide in 32,000 clubs. There are 530 Districts in 200 countries.
Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above Self.” The organization has focused on the eradication of polio, clean water, health, education and literacy as being some of the most important things to accomplish in the world. Rotary looks at things by using a four-way test: 1. Is it the truth?, 2. Is it fair to all concerned?, 3. Will it build good will and better friendships, and 4. Is it beneficial to all concerned?
District 7810 includes 28 clubs in New Brunswick and 12 in Aroostook and Washington counties in Maine, with 1,272 members. The District Mission is to help clubs advance the object of Rotary, to train district leaders, to promote the Rotary Foundation and World Community Service and to promote membership and retention.
Each club is also involved in various community projects but also enjoys fellowship with a greater organization. There are many ways for clubs to collaborate on projects and for each Rotarian to get involved.
Copies of “I Remember When in Mars Hill” are now on sale at the Mars Hill Town Office and several other businesses in town. At a cost of $25, these books include 37 stories of Mars Hill through the years. Written by various individuals, there are stories and memories about local and farm families, sports, Main Street, postal service, Eagle Scouts and much more.
