The Class C state ski championship meet took place Feb. 16-18 at Lonesome Pine Trails and the 10th Mountain Ski Center in Fort Kent.
On the first day of competition, the slalom event was held and Central Aroostook’s Shane Miller took the sixth position in 1 minute, 20.74 seconds for the two runs. Ethan Stiles of CA was 12th in 1:27.45 and Caleb Jewett was 29th in 1:40.73.
The race winner was Alexander Rose of Livermore Falls in 1:16.37.
In the giant slalom the following day, the Panther boys placed hird as a team.
Central Aroostook posted a score of 52, which trailed only Livermore Falls (28) and Fort Kent (32).
Leading CA was Miller, who was seventh in 1:35.08. In 12th was Jewett in 1:37.22, while Logan Brewer of the Panthers grabbed the 13th position in 1:37.31.
Josh Cook (24th, 1:40.69) and Joe Stiles (30th, 1:43.71) were next for the Panthers.
In Nordic skiing, Fort Fairfield’s Melissa McKenney garnered a 12th place finish in the five-kilometer freestyle race. Her time was 21:56.93.
Teammates Veronica Plourde (20th, 24:03.82) and Victoria Plourde (23rd, 24:22.96) also had strong performances.
In the classical race held on the final day of competition, McKenney again was 12th overall with a time of 26:07.98.
Victoria Plourde was 14th in 26:13.89 and Veronica Plourde 19th in 27:14.31.
With 68 points, the Fort Fairfield girls placed fourth in the state in the classical race with 68 points, behind only Fort Kent (23), Merriconeag (55) and Freeport (61).
In combined Nordic, the Tigers placed fifth overall with 146 points.
